West Virginia University Hospitals-East officials gathered on Monday with representatives from the Martinsburg Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the official opening of a new medical building in Inwood.
Inwood Medical, a 10,000 square foot building located on Route 51 at Sader Drive in Inwood, will house two existing medical practices in South Berkeley County. Apple Valley Family Medicine and Inwood Family Medicine are scheduled to relocate to the new facility on July 2.
Approximately 5,000 square feet of the one-story medical building was built to house the family medicine practices. The remaining interior space of the one-story medical building will be built out later this year.
According to Anthony Zelenka, chief administrative officer at City Hospital, a neurologist who is relocating to the area later this summer will have an office there. “We also plan to move our sleep labs from City Hospital to Inwood Medical,” he said.
Other plans under consideration include a satellite office for City Hospital’s rehabilitation services that would include physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. “We want to provide the residents of South Berkeley County improved access to health services,” Zelenka commented.
Panhandle Builders and Excavating of Martinsburg was the contractor for the $2 million Inwood project. The building and land is owned by the City Hospital Foundation, a member of WVUH-East.
