West Virginia State University Foundation Elects Officers, Directors

The West Virginia State University (WVSU) Foundation recently held elections for new officers and directors for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2014.

Mark W. Kelley, Esq., has been elected chair of the Foundation. Kelley is a partner with the law firm of Ray, Winton & Kelley, PLLC

Janie Hill has been elected vice chair. Hill is retired from a career in rehabilitation services.

Allan L. McVey has been elected immediate past chair. McVey is the vice president and agency manager of BB&T Carson Insurance Services

Dr. John L. Fuller Sr. has been elected secretary. Fuller is retired from a career in administration at West Virginia State University.

David L. Sayre has been elected treasurer. Sayre is the vice president for commercial banking for Wells Fargo Bank, NA.

All officers serve a one-year term from July 1, 2014, through June 30, 2015.

In addition to officers, the Foundation also elected the following new directors for a term of service from July 1, 2014, through June 30, 2017:

·        Patricia L. Alexander, LRP, CRC, WVSU class of 1985, the owner of Alexander Loan Review & Consulting, LLC;

·        Gregory V. Monroe Sr., WVSU class of 1980, an executive trainer with Cendant Corp.;

·        James Alan Ross, WVSU class of 1988, a real estate/referral agent and consultant;

·        Ann C. Smith, Ed.D., WVSU class of 1964, a retired educator and a member of the WVSU Board of Governors; and

·        Lateef Y. Saffore, WVSU class of 1996, a research biologist with the Cleveland Clinic.

The Foundation also appointed three people to the new position of director emeritus. This new, permanent appointment recognizes outstanding service to the Foundation.  A director emeritus must have served as Foundation Board Chair and have served on the Board for at least 10 years.

Those appointed director emeritus are:

·        C. Edward Gaunch, WVSU class of 1970, a retired insurance executive;

·        Gary L. Swingle, WVSU class of 1970, a partner with Arnett & Foster, PLC; and

·        Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Robert L. Stephens, Jr., WVSU class of 1962, a retired U.S Army brigadier general and higher education administrator.

The West Virginia State University Foundation, Inc. was established in 1959 by administration, faculty, alumni and friends to receive, manage and administer contributions and gifts for the benefit of the University. The Foundation is a public charity under the Internal Revenue Code – IRC § 501(c)(3). Since its inception, the Foundation has arranged scholarship programs and support for academic, athletic, community and student projects at the University.
