For the Summer 2013 issue of West Virginia Executive, we asked our readers for their best scenic photos of the Mountain State, and we were not disappointed! With more than 500 images of wildlife, wild flowers and wild adventures epitomizing our Wild and Wonderful state, our staff had a difficult time selecting their top 15 for the print version. We had so many incredible images, we decided to take to the Web to share more of the submissions we received.

Many thanks to all of our participants—amateur and professional photographers alike—who shared with us the beauty they have captured in the Mountain State!

  1. I am proud to live in West Virginia. Also, proud of my cousin Laura
Ferguson’s picture of the New River Gorge Bridge. All the photos showed
    a beautiful West Virginia.

  2. What a beautiful state! These pictures bring back a lot of wild and wonderful memories. I especially like the New River Gorge Bridge — great perspective!

  3. We live in a beautiful state, & these wonderful photos proof it. Congratulations, Laura, (friend of your cousin, Sue) & to all the other photographers. Well done!.

  4. We are surrounded by the beauty of nature in this Wild, Wonderful state, West Virginia. There’s no other place like it. Thanks for sharing the photographs.

  5. I am honored to be one of the ones whose photo was one of the 15 chosen. I really don’t know how the staff decided; the pictures directly above these comments are awesome. We really do live in a beautiful state.

  6. How awesome to be included along with such amazing photographers. Beautiful pictures of Wild Wonderful West Virginia!!

  7. It had to be very hard to make the decision looking at all of these AMAZING images representing out beautiful state. I am very honored to have an online presence. Thank you! West Virginia: Wild, Wonderful and Beautiful!

  8. Let the rest of the world think what they may. The Mountain State is truly ‘Almost Heaven’. And although I may be prejudice, the pic of the barn reflecting on the pond water is the best. Especially considering it was taken using a simple iPhone….on our humble farm…by my wonderful wife!!

  9. We are so thankful to our daughter-in-law, Angela, for beautifully capturing one of our favorite scenes. It can now be enjoyed by many.

  10. The red barn reflected in the small fishing pond framed by the pine trees should spark memories in anyone’s mind that has ever spent time on a WV farm steeped in memories. The beauty captured by the setting reminds us that no matter how far we roam, those memories are never too far from our soul! Thank you to the photographer, Angela Rice, for capturing those memories!

  11. What a beautiful state we live in. I have been all around this country and nothing compares to West Virginia. The picture of the pond and barn always remind me of home. All of them are beautiful. Proud of you mom!!!

  12. Wow. I get chill bumps while looking over most of these amazing photos, most of which were taken at places I have personal memories. But the most amazing of all is the red barn, known as the ‘lower barn’ reflected on the pond…where I grew up. Thank you, Ang, for capturing much more than a picture, but a whole story…

  13. I doubt there’s a more beautiful place on earth than West Virginia. If we ever became a separate country we could be the Switzerland of North America (then again maybe someday Switzerland would call itself the West Virginia of Europe!).

  14. These are some beautiful sites here in W.Va…I have been to some of them over the years , and I have seen so many more…Our wonderful state is loaded with scenes that are breathtaking for most anyone that is blessed enough to see them….My daughter-in-law from Texas came here for the first time just after she and our son got married… It was a bad time , then , too, with the weather…She was snowed in for the first 3 days…When she finally got to come back and see our beautiful state in it’s fall foliage for the first time, she was amazed. I also like to hear the comments from the ball players that are seeing our state for the first time…They are amazed at our beauty, and mostly the wonderful people with whom they have been able to talk to and meet..

  15. We spend our summers in Vermont and New Hampshire. there are no views, however, as beautiful as we have in wild wonderful WVa
