A Nightmare in Venice, Classical Guitar, and Ensembles from Mexico, Amsterdam, and the Czech Republic

Tickets are now available for the Charleston Chamber Music Society’s 2010-2011 season. For the 69th season, the Charleston Chamber Music Society will continue its tradition of bringing quality chamber music ensembles from around the world to Charleston, with five exciting concerts at Christ Church United Methodist in downtown Charleston.

Season tickets are on sale now: $40 for first time season ticket buyers, $60 for a regular season ticket, and $10 for a student season ticket. Individual ticket prices will remain $17 for adults, $5 for students, and FREE for students through high school with a paying adult. To purchase tickets, call 304.344.5389 or email NdavidS@aol.com.

The season opens on September 25th, with La Catrina Quartet performing string quartet classics and Latin American favorites. Yo-Yo Ma has hailed these four young musicians from Mexico as, “wonderful ambassadors for music.” They are currently in residence at New Mexico State University and tour throughout the United States and Mexico. http://www.lacatrinaquartet.com/Intro.html

Just in time for Halloween, baroque music “rock stars” Red Priest will present a theatrical music event, “A Nightmare in Venice” on October 30th.

Red Priest is the only early music group in the world to have been compared in the press to the Rolling Stones, Jackson Pollock, the Marx Brothers, Spike Jones and the Cirque du Soleil. This extraordinary acoustic foursome has been described by music critics as ‘visionary and heretical’, ‘outrageous yet compulsive’, ‘wholly irreverent and highly enlightened’, ‘completely wild and deeply imaginative’, with a ‘red-hot wicked sense of humour’ and a ‘break-all-rules, rock-chamber concert approach to early music.’ http://www.piersadams.com/RedPriest/

The Max Brod Trio comes to Charleston on November 20th as part of their first American tour. Acclaimed in their native Czech Republic and throughout Europe, the members of the Max Brod Trio are recognized as, “Great musicians with innate cohesion and sheer expertise [who] relate music as it is. Their love of and sheer fun in making music is outstanding.” http://www.maxbrodtrio.eu/

Classical guitarist Robert Gruca returns on January 9th, for an intimate Sunday afternoon recital of classical guitar masterworks. Gruca is an excellent guitarist who has toured throughout America and Europe with the Cleveland Orchestra and as a solo recitalist. He is known as a "wonderful and engaging performer,” and for "bringing passion and artistry to his performance." http://www.robertgruca.com/

The Trio Con Brio Copenhagen will bring an exciting conclusion to the 2010-11 season, with their performance on April 9th. The New York Times lauded them as “accomplished and sensitive musicians,” and American Record Guide concurs: “They move comfortably and convincingly from melancholy to exuberant joy, and the listener cannot fail to be taken along." http://www.trioconbrio.dk/

ChamberKids continues with several free programs for children during the concerts. These programs introduce children to music, while enabling their parents to attend the concert and relax.
